Although the demand for food additives in processing, preservation, nutrition... has increased sharply, this industry in Vietnam is almost undeveloped, nearly 100% of Vietnamese food processing additives. South depends on foreign countries.

Do not do because gold and brass are mixed? The rampant presence in the market of food additives outside the regulatory list is making most of the regulatory agencies as well as customers skeptical about the development of “allowed” additives. Professor Chu Pham Ngoc Son, Chairman of the Chemistry Association, Vice President of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Ho Chi Minh City said: “Our state has not strictly managed and distinguished between food chemicals and chemicals. industrial chemicals. Food additives are sold with chemicals used for other purposes, creating conditions for manufacturers to abuse in food processing. Many manufacturers, although distinguishable, still intentionally use chemicals and industrial additives to replace chemicals and food additives in food production, mainly with the aim of maximizing profits.

Meanwhile, the field of additive manufacturing and trading is an indispensable part of the food industry and is in fact experiencing very fast growth. According to the report of Vietnam Animal Products Industry Company Limited (Vissan), every year this enterprise has to spend about 200 billion VND to import additives for production. It is forecasted that in the coming years this number will increase because of the need to expand production and the new factory in Long An is put into production. Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Ninh, Deputy General Director of Vissan said: “It is reluctant to import additives because we cannot find any suppliers in the domestic market. If there are, they are also import and redistributable agents with very limited supply.” Professor Luu Duan, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Food Science and Technology explained: “Are we exploiting the food additive market? Or let the big guys in the world jump in and exploit it? If we don't, we will let the market fall into the hands of others. I have asked questions at every industry conference over the years, but no business has dared to do it yet.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thach Truc, New Business Development Manager for Asia - Pacific region of Kerry Group acknowledged: "Investing in research and processing food additives requires high technology, but profits are earned. also attractive. Food additives are also a supporting industry, but Vietnam is losing in this area, even compared to other countries in the region such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. And Mrs. Ly Kim Chi, Chairman of the Food and Food Association of Ho Chi Minh City, shared: “A big market worth investing in has been neglected for a long time. With the current level of preparation, Vietnamese businesses that want to participate in this market may only have to cooperate and associate with foreign enterprises. According to a survey by UBM Asia, the growth rate of the food industry in Vietnam in recent years, especially in the past 5 years, has reached 52% per year. In particular, the beverage industry alone achieved the highest growth rate: 150%. …to the yard for the “big man” grandpa

Foreign businesses have, of course, noticed this unexplored fertile land. Currently, the main supplier of additives in the Vietnamese market is an enterprise from Belgium (Puratos Grand-Place Vietnam), providing about 100 types of additives to partners, including many giants such as Metro , Lotte, Tous Les Jours and Kido. Phan Thi Phuong Thanh, Marketing Director of Puratos Grand-Place Vietnam said: “Initially, the company only researched and developed cocoa trees and cocoa-related products. However, recently realized that the food market is growing and the additive field has a lot of potential, so decided to join. With the support from the parent corporation in research, Puratos Vietnam has come up with many solutions for bread and ice cream manufacturers and restaurants in the production and preservation of their products. It is quite surprising that when participating in this additive supply market, we have almost no competitors. This is the basis for businesses to hope for great growth in the near future.”

This comment is reasonable, because it has only been involved for 3 years and the additive segment accounts for only 3% of the company's revenue, but the leader of this business sets a plan to increase revenue by about 50 percent per year. %. Puratos expects that from now until 2020, the additive industry will account for 30% of revenue. Recently, during the exhibition dedicated to the industry of raw materials, flavors, additives, food chemicals, according to the announcement from the organizers - UBM Asia Company - there were about 150 suppliers around the world participating in the exhibition. family. This number shows that the potential to develop with the food industry in Vietnam is still very large. Many foreign businesses also learn to participate in investing in building factories in Vietnam.
